Faculty Appraisal System
The AICTE 360-Degree Feedback System is explicitly designed and mandated for faculty appraisal and career advancement in technical institutions.
Introduced to improve the quality of technical education, this system acts as a comprehensive, multi-source, and objective tool for evaluating faculty performance, replacing or augmenting traditional one-on-one appraisals.

How it is Used in Faculty Appraisal
-
Mandatory Requirement: The system is required for the promotion and career advancement of teachers as per the Gazette of India notification dated March 1, 2019.
-
Comprehensive Data Collection: It gathers data from multiple stakeholders—including students, Heads of Departments (HODs), and principals—to create an overall performance evaluation (360-degree view).
-
Key Performance Indicators (100-point scale): The final score is based on six key parameters:
-
Teaching Process: (Max 20-25 points) - Self-reported data on classes held.
-
Student Feedback: (Max 20-25 points) - Evaluation of teaching skills by students.
-
Departmental Activities: (Max 20 points) - Contributions to the department, reviewed by the HOD.
-
Institute Activities: (Max 10 points) - Roles assigned by the principal.
-
Annual Confidential Report (ACR): (Max 10-20 points) - Overall, annual performance.
-
Contribution to Society: (Max 10 points) - Outreach activities.
-
-
Digital Platform: AICTE has partnered with Smart Cookie (Protsahan Bharati) to provide an online portal/app to collect this feedback.

Purpose in Appraisal
-
Promotion & Increments: The aggregated data is used by management to determine faculty promotions and salary increments.
-
Performance Improvement: It acts as a guide to help teachers enhance their teaching skills and identify areas for improvement.
-
Transparency: It is used for regulatory compliance and ensuring fairness in the appraisal process.

The AICTE 360 Degree Feedback System uses a standardized set of 14 objective questions for student feedback and a specific portal for faculty to submit their self-appraisal data.
Student Feedback Questionnaire
Students rate faculty on a scale (typically 1–5, from "Poor" to "Excellent") across the following key areas:
-
Syllabus Coverage: Has the teacher covered the entire prescribed syllabus?
-
Beyond Syllabus: Has the teacher covered relevant topics beyond the standard syllabus?
-
Teaching Effectiveness:
-
Technical/Course content quality.
-
Communication skills of the faculty.
-
Effective use of teaching aids (ICT, models, etc.).
-
-
Course Delivery: Pace at which the course content was covered.
-
Student Engagement:
-
Motivation and inspiration provided to students to learn.
-
Support for skill development (practical demonstrations, hands-on training).
-
-
Clarity & Feedback:
-
Clarity of expectations from students.
-
Regularity of feedback provided on students' progress.
-
-
Availability: Willingness to offer help and advice to students outside of class.
