The Student Mentoring Cell at Success Degree College is dedicated to fostering personal and academic growth among students. Our experienced mentors provide, support, and resources to help students navigate their educational journey. Through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and group activities, we aim to empower students to achieve their goals and develop essential skills for their future careers. Student mentoring and counselling is widely recognised as an important aspect of the teaching-learning process, particularly in higher education. The central idea is that students who come from rural, agricultural, and educationally challenging who want to pursue higher education require parental-like guidance, advice, and counselling, not only in curricular matters, but also explore their skills through co-curricular and extracurricular activities in their new environment for their holistic development.

Objectives of the Cell

  • To develop healthy relationship between students and teachers

  • To mentor the students regularity & performance in each subject

  • To ensure that the parents know about the performance & regularity of their children

  • To ensure academic and professional performance of the students

  • To inculcate the human values among the students

  • To acclimatize the new students to the college campus

  • To provide academic counseling

  • To enlighten the students on professional ethics and conduct

  • Providing emotional support to students on individual basis

  • Establishing rapport between teachers, students & parents

  • Monitoring attendance and behavioral aspects of every student

  • Active and constant participation of the parents is always encouraged and appreciated

Methodology of Mentoring

  • To develop a strong connection between the students and the faculty

  • To inculcate the sense of belongingness among the students towards the institute

  • To foster problem solving attitude and self - introspection in the students

  • It should not be like Do’s and Don’ts or lecture session

  • It should be Discussion Oriented and real life activities

  • The discussions should be thought provoking. Teachers should not over emphasis his thoughts. It is essential for giving exposure, guiding thoughts, and realizing values

  • Following are the topics for discussions during mentoring session:

  1. Students aspirations, family expectation

  2. Gratitude towards people helping me

  3. Human Needs of (a) Self and (b)body

  4. Peer pressure

  5. Prosperity

  6. Relationships

Guidelines

1. A Student Induction Programme, all the class teachers shall forward the list of students (Mentee) to the coordinator and the coordinator will allot them to the teacher (Mentor) right from the first year of their course.

2. There should be maximum 20 mentee per mentor.

3. A guide (senior) student should be included for every 10 students in the group.

4. Groups should be made from same department.

5. Groups should remain for entire course duration.

6. The mentor should conduct regular meetings and discussions on any problem such as academic, financial, psychological, etc.

7. There should be a continuous review of students’ progress.

8. The mentor should keep the record of all details in the mentoring session.

9. The mentor should identify the poor learners and interact with them to resolve the cause.

10. The mentor can involve the Parents, Head and Principal for reforming of the student with poor performance and indifferent behavior.

11. The mentee may subject to disciplinary action if violation code of conduct.

Duties & Responsibilities of Mentor

  • Introduction of group and discussion of the mentor – mentee system

  • Call of meeting and record of details in the form about goal setting & action planning, SWOC analysis and mentoring session

  • Keep a track record of attendance and academic performance and behavioral aspect

  • Support to the student academically and emotionally

  • Contact to parents and to inform them about the progress of their ward

  • Arrange remedial teaching, if necessary

  • Each mentor will update student's performance to the departmental coordinator (HoDs)

  • The mentors meet the students assocaited with them atleast once in a month

  • Student's attendance in every class is to be collected after each class so that if a student is absent for more that 5 classes in any subject continuously, the mentor will inform the parents of the students concerned & enquire the reason

Duties & Responsibilities of Mentee

  • Attend meeting regularly

  • Fill the personal information in the form

  • Provide details of attendance, continuous assessment, term end examination, cocurricular, extra-curricular activities to mentor

  • Seek advice from mentor whenever required

  • Provide all necessary data with relevant documents (Previous Academic Performance Records, documents for participation in extra co - curricular activities and academic advancement)

  • Seek information regarding resources that you need from various sources

  • Conduct peer mentoring to help your mentor

  • Have a positive attitude

  • Accept feedback respectfully & cordially & discuss future course of action

  • Provide feedback and communicate healthy developments in you reciprocity in interaction is the key to a successful mentor-mentee relationship

Structure of Mentoring Cell

  • Chairman (Principal)

  • HoDs as Departmental Coordinators

  • One Mentor for approximately 20 students

The cell is responsible to resolve day to day academic problems of the students. Mentors are appointed for each batch & they counsel the respective students once in a month to solve the problems which occur during their course of study.​
